LOCHNESS MINIGAME

The Lochness Minigame is a community event located in Eastern Dockhaven where players work together to hunt and kill the Lochness Monster (known as Nessie). Upon successfully defeating Nessie, you'll be awarded Fishing XP & Lochness Points, which can be exchanged at the Water Spirit in Dockhaven for unique items. You need at least level 10 Fishing to join — otherwise you won't be able to catch any fish!

There are also Achievements related to this minigame.

How to Play

You won't be allowed to enter the minigame unless you have a Fishing Rod , a Fishing Net , a Ranged Weapon and Arrows.

It is recommended to play in groups of 3 to 4 for maximum effectiveness. You can Solo Nessie if you wish, although it will take longer depending on your Gear.

Point System

The number of Lochness Points you receive is based on your placement in the minigame:

(Note: Your Placement is based on how much damage you deal to Nessie that round, meaning if you have the highest damage, you will become the MVP or 1st Place)

You can also be rewarded points for shooting certain fish:

(Note: You can shoot as much Gold fish Into the cannon as you wish, there is no limit. But Gold fish Point gain only applies to the person who put the Gold Fish in the Cannon and Shot it. Nobody else in the round will be affected, and your Ranking will stay the same)

Fishing

Fishing is a core part of this minigame. Use your Fishing Net to catch 4 different coloured fish, each giving a random number of points when loaded into the Cannon (The Points this is refereing to is the Counter needed to make Nessie Appear, not the Points you get for beaing Nessie). You must also use your Fishing Rod to fish at the Anchor for Scrap Metal.

Each of the 4 fish has its own Fishing level requirement.

At the start of each round, one of Green, Yellow, or Red fish will be selected to give bonus Counter points. This fish will have a Counter point value of 3, while the rest have a Counter point value of 1.

Blue fish will never appear as the bonus Counter point fish.

There is also a special chance to catch a Gold Fish from any fishing spot within the minigame while using the Nessie Fishing Net. It has a 1–2% chance of being caught. Fishing Potions do not affect its drop rate. The player who loads it into the cannon receives 10 extra Nessie points (if Nessie is defeated). You can put multiple Gold Fish into the cannon in one game, adding more to the Point Payout.

The Anchor is used to gather Scrap Metal. Use your Fishing Rod to fish at the Anchor, using the Magnet will drastically improve your time. If you have the Nessie Fishing Rod and Magnet it is nearly instant(High fishing Level with a magnet make it 1 click).

You will keep your Fish, Magnet, Scrap and Cannon Pieces in between rounds, but leaving the room will cause them to be deleted from your inventory.

Nessie

You must kill the Lochness Monster to end the minigame, or wait until the timer runs out. Nessie's health starts at 500 (with a party of 1–3) and increases by ~250 for each additional player.

Cannon

The Cannon is used to attract Nessie to the shore. It starts in a broken state — to repair it, you must load a Cannon Piece into it. The type of piece determines how long the Cannon stays active.

For every player that joins, the Cannon requires 30 extra points to attract Nessie.

Strategy

Tips: Get atleast level 50 Fishing and bring Fishing Potion. An Archery Potion plus Focus or Clarity worship spells can further help ensure a faster Nessie kill.

There is typically no need to bring metal bars to craft higher-level Cannon Pieces, since you can fire an entire cycle's worth of fish on a standard scrap metal Cannon Piece with fast clicking and good coordination.

Recommended Team

A coordinated team of 4–5 players works best.

Minimum loadout: Tiger Armour, Maple Bow, and Bronze Arrows

Recommended loadout: Crocodile Armour, Mangrove Bow, and Iron Arrows

Melee option: If you have access to Spears they can hit the boss too, bring your armour that gives you the best melee damage bonuses. You will still need a bow and arrow(s) to be allowed in.

Game Plan

Before the game starts, assign roles: one person tests fish, two people craft cannon pieces, and the rest fish.

1. When the game starts, One person will get every coloured fish and test them in the Cannon to see which one to use to spawn Nessie.
   1. Advanced method: You only need to fish up 2 types of fish for the initial testing. If it's not either, using process of elimination it must be the 4th type.
2. Meanwhile, the others gather Scrap Metal and craft it into Cannon Pieces.
   1. Advanced method: Your player will continue to craft the Cannon Pieces even if you walk away from the anvil and start other actions. You can save a few seconds by starting to craft them, and then immediately run to go help with fishing.
3. Once the best fish is identified, everyone fishes that spot.
4. After collecting 15–20 fish, repair the Cannon, load the fish, and fire rapidly.
5. When enough fish have been fired, Nessie will spawn. Quickly equip your bow and arrows and shoot her down.
6. Kill Nessie to earn your points!

Soloing Nessie

At the beginning of each round testing is the most important part.

1. When the game starts, go fish any 1 fish and 3-4 scrap.
2. Repair the cannon by turning your scrap into cannon pieces and fire your test fish, note the colour of the cannon fire and go collect those fish.
   1. Advanced method: Your player will continue to craft the Cannon Pieces even if you walk away from the anvil and start other actions. You can save a few seconds by starting to craft them, and then immediately run to go fishing.
3. Catch 10 of the correct fish per expected cycle. If you haven't played before and don't know how long it will take you, 20-30 fish should be plenty.
4. Load cannon with 10 of the correct fish, equip your weapon, and fire the cannon. Repeat as necessary until Nessie dies.
5. If you plan on killing more than 1 Nessie take your 1 extra fish and 1 extra cannon piece and test fire for the new round.
6. Optional: When the game starts, go fish all the fishes once, and get 2 scraps, then turn them into regular cannon pieces, use 1 and test which fish is the chosen one(more points than others), then go fish 8 more of it and fix cannon + fire all those fish and shoot down Nessie. You may have to repeat if your luck isn't good enough.

Bulk Fish Strategy

This strategy takes advantage of the fact that minigame resources don't despawn if you stay in the area. It maximizes efficiency of potion usage, and allows partial AFK time, but does require a bigger time investment.

1. Drink a Fishing Potion
2. Fish at all spots (Except Blue, mainly red) roughly an even number of times until the fishing potion runs out. Restart the minigame as needed.
   1. This strategy assumes an even distribution of bonus point fish, but with bad luck it's possible that one type gets chosen disproportionately and you'll lose some efficiency.
3. Fish up scrap metal and craft as needed. Note that scrap metal can be done off-potion since it is not doubled.
4. Finally, use your combat potions and spells. Use your stockpiled fish to defeat Nessie continuously.
