Trading is a game mechanic that allows players to exchange items and coins with one another. All trades are conducted face to face — there is no automated auction house or grand exchange. Players negotiate prices directly, either in person or through the in-game chat.

How to Trade

To initiate a trade, right-click another player and select "Send Trade Request".

If the other player also right-clicks and sends a trade request in return, the trade menu opens. Each player can select one type of item in any quantity to offer. Both players must confirm the trade before it is completed.

The trade menu displays the player's inventory at the top, their offered item below, and the other player's offered item at the bottom.

Currently, only one item type per player can be exchanged in a single trade. To trade multiple different items, players must complete several trades in succession.

Trading Board

A trading board sign can be found at any bank in the game. It links to the official FlatMMO market page at flatmmo.com/market, where players can list items they are willing to buy or sell along with their asking prices.

The trading board is a browsing tool only — it does not facilitate trades directly. Players who find a listing they are interested in must track down the seller in-game or contact them through the Discord server to arrange the trade.

Posting listings on the trading board requires Bronze Premium or higher to prevent spam. The market is an ongoing test feature; the developer has stated that trading is intended to remain a face-to-face experience. Diamond Premium Players are unable to post on the board, due to a bug.

Item Values

There are no fixed prices for items in FlatMMO. All values are determined by players through supply and demand. Prices are likely to shift over time as the game grows and more items and coins enter the economy.

A useful reference for estimating item value is the NPC sell price list at flatmmo.com/data/prices.php, which shows what NPCs will pay for each item. However, rare or high-demand items often sell for many times their NPC price in player-to-player trades.

Factors Affecting Value

Factor Description
Time to acquire Items that take longer to gather are generally worth more. For example, if 100 willow logs and 100 iron ore take roughly the same time to collect, they could be considered a fair trade.
Skill level Higher-level players gather resources faster, which can reduce the perceived value of those resources to them personally.
Rarity Rare drops, quest items, and limited supplies command higher prices than common materials.
Demand Items needed for popular activities (potions, high-level gear, quest requirements) tend to hold higher value.

Trading Tips

Tip Details
Ask around first Use /yell to ask what players would pay for an item before committing to a price. This helps gauge the current market rate.
Haggle carefully Nothing has a fixed price, so negotiation is expected. Starting with a low offer leaves room for counteroffers, but extremely low offers may be taken poorly.
Reputation matters Other players can see /yell messages. Consistent fair dealing builds a good reputation, while poor offers or rude behaviour are remembered.
Be polite Always be respectful during negotiations, even if a deal falls through.
