Woodcutting is a gathering skill used to chop down trees with an axe. Players gather logs, woodchips, and bird nests from trees. Logs are used across many skills: Crafting (bows, staves, arrow shafts, hearts, planks), Firemaking (lighting fires and the Bondfire), and Mining (charcoal production via woodchips).

Chopping speed is increased by using higher-tier axes and by levelling up Woodcutting (every 2 levels after you unlock a tree, it becomes 1 tick quicker to chop). Every tick spent chopping also has a chance to yield Rotten Logs , which when used provide a random amount of Moldshrooms or, rarely, Moldshroom Seeds.

Axes

Higher-tier axes reduce the number of ticks needed to gather each log. Axes are forged through the Forging skill (except the Omboko Axe, which is crafted).

The Omboko Axe matches Titanium's −5 tick reduction and provides an additional bonus when chopping Bamboo.

Bamboo is unique: it breaks in only 10 seconds and gives 25 XP per chop, making it fast but low XP per log. Higher-tier trees take longer but yield significantly more XP.

Woodchips

Trees have a chance to drop Woodchips when chopped, this amount depends on the type of tree. Woodchips are taken to the Charcoal Kiln (Mine 2nd floor) and converted into Charcoal (50 Woodchips + 600 Coins per Charcoal). Charcoal is required for smelting Promethium, Titanium, and Ancient bars.

Bird Nests

There is a rare chance for a Bird Nest to drop while chopping any tree. When this happens, you will hear a short birdsong (only the player who received the nest hears it) and the nest drops next to you. If you are using a birdsnest potion at the time, you will get at least 2. While they are quite rare certain items like the Bird Feed will improve your chances.

If not picked up within 1 minute, the nest becomes available for other players to pick up. After a few more minutes, it despawns.

Every nest contains Feathers and a Tree Seed. Each tree seed type is progressively rarer. Tree seeds can be planted in Farming plots for large amounts of Farming XP.

Haunted Birdnest

The Haunted Birdnest is only dropped from the Haunted Tree. It is used to get into the Ghost Mansion (by clicking on it, and then clicking on the Tombstones in Everbrook Cemetery).

Evil Tree

The Evil Tree has a very rare chance of spawning after chopping down any Tree, and lasts for 1 hour. (/t or /status). Evil Trees when chopped have a chance to award you Evil Tree Points which can be traded in at the Forest Spirit for rewards located near the 2 Bears. The Tree will dictate your points, some trees are under a dozen points per collection, others are nearly 100.

The Evil Tree along with Meteor are Community Events where multiple players can take part in the same activity without affecting each other.

If you manage to get Leafy Gloves as a reward from the Forest Spirit it will double the XP and evil points awarded. Using a woodcutting potion with this will again double the XP but not the points.
